You are forgetting the most important thing: CONTENTIf you have unique, witty, funny, interesting, highly informative content, people will be more than willing to link to your site. Especially with the growing popularity of bookmarking sites such as digg, del.i.cious and others, people can discover your site and actually share it with others. This is the strategy called LINK BAITING -- which is basically creating content that people would want to link to Then there are the press releases. If you submit a press release and it goes to Google News for example, a lot of sites will pick up the press release. Utilize the power of RSS. Here are some sites you can use to submit your press release for free or low costhttp://www.prleap.com/sign_up.htmlhttp://i-newswire.com/http://www.24-7pressrelease.com/http://www.pressbox.co.uk/cgi-bin/links/add.cgihttp://www.pr.com/press-releaseshttp://www.prfree.com/http://www.clickpress.com/releases/index.shtmlhttp://www.theopenpress.com/http://www.przoom.com/http://www.prweb.comhttp://www.newswiretoday.com/http://www.free-press-release.com/Then there's the old way by sending emails to sites you want to link to you. Be careful though with reciprocal links in terms of giving links to sites not related to you (e.g linking to a mortgage website when your site is all about babies) as Google can penalize you.

Your looking at expensive and low level efforts. Obviously you want to have link worthy content. However, you can have the best content in the world and if people don't find it to start with then they can't link to it. If they can link to it then you can be found for it... Thus the evil cycle. 1. Answer questions like in place like Yahoo Answers and put your link in the source. 2. Use social media communities to help get some visibility for your content... SutmbleUpon, Squidoo, Facebook, etc etc.. Digg, Reddit, Delicious...3. Go out to niche forums and offer value and participate. Leave a nice little link to your site in the footer but don't spam. Use your imagine and look for places where you could get away with a link to your site without spamming.

This is the best way to get your site noticed. It’s rarely an instant return on the Internet. You need your site coming up relevant to what people "search for" on the Internet. It takes time to get placement in the right places within the Internet and if you're listed in the right category of searches you stand a better chance of returns. The following is one of the better ways. For a small charge you can have a “Permanent” website advertisement placed in an index such as this in a choice of around 750 categories to target your business trade. This will raise your website profile and increase its chances of extra sales because this site is indexed by the search engines placing your site within public searches. The advantage of a site like this is that you don’t have to update your listing again. For a permanent ongoing promotion: http://www.search-the-world (Dot) com/form/listingPlace a dot in the above!
